How to move a Fridge or Freezer
Q – What is the best way to move a fridge?
A – Ideally move your fridge in an upright position. However, there is often no other way to move your fridge other than on it’s side. A fridge can be moved on it’s side, but you have to be careful to prevent oil coming out of the compressor and running up the lines where it can cause damage.
The main problem is the oil from the compressor entering the cooling lines. See the different lines on a compressor below :
Important: If the refrigerator was transported on its side, it should be stood upright for an equal amount of time as it was on its side before plugging it in. If on its side for more than a day, leave standing for 24 hours before running.
Q – How long do you have to turn a fridge off before moving it?
A –You will need to defrost, clean and dry your freezer at least 24 hours before service and moving. If your freezer is not a defrost model, allow additional time for defrosting.
